Rip. And. Tear. Those words are so perfect to describe the fundamental principle of DOOM Eternal, it's uncanny. This year I not only got to give this game a shot, but did so after trying out the 2016 reboot as well. Having played both, I see Eternal as a major upgrade in nearly every way to an already stellar game. Blazing fast gameplay will have you speeding around the environment ripping apart demons in just about every way imaginable. With the new dashing ability allowing for much improved aerial traversal and as a result, even more speed. While there are certainly things I prefer about the first game like the collectible hunting and the lack of the marauder, DOOM Eternal is an incredible follow-up that does everything in its power to innovate where it can on such a classic formula. There's just nothing quite like grappling yourself over to an enemy just to blow them into chunks like a demonic stripper coming out of a guts-filled birthday cake. If you haven't played the DOOM reboot games and have any interest in the FPS genre whatsoever, I can't recommend these two games highly enough and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next installment so I can dive back into hell to rip and tear all over again.
